Happy 6th Anniversary, Derek and Amy!!!

Wow! Six years ago we celebrated Derek and Amy's marriage with a beautiful ceremony in Wichita. I was in the clouds that day... Derek was marrying his best friend, Amy Bauer, and we loved her like our own daughter. It was a day of thanksgiving for what God had done in all of our lives. I was really in awe that all of my 6 children had a special part in the wedding. Derek was the groom, Tyler the best man, Mallory a bridesmaid, Trey the candlelighter and carpet puller, Drew the ringbearer, and Mikiah the flowergirl. How many Mom's could see that happen?? Derek escorts me down to my seat and gives me that kiss on top of my head that only Derek can do, and had done all the years he was tall enough to do it. Derek stands up front with Tyler, his best man....they've been buds since Tyler's birth in 1984. Mallory walks down the aisle...at last...her dream of being a bridesmaid fulfilled. Mik, being only 2, walked down the aisle with her brother, Drew, the ringbearer, so sweetly. I was fighting back the tears watching them. Trey and Greg roll out the white carpet, and then came Amy, absolutely beautiful being escorted by her Dad. I looked over at Cheri (Amy's mom) and the mixture of joy and tears was all I needed to see..... I didn't want to mess up my make-up!! We made it through...even the special prayer that Tim, Cheri, Dale, me, Derek and Amy prayed after the unity candle. I will always have wonderful memories of this beautiful day. Of course, I have to mention their first kiss witnessed by an overflowing church... a great cheer and round of applause sounds. Derek and Amy walk up the aisle. Derek has that smile on his face that I had been seldom able snap a picture of through out his childhood. I have it in an 8 x 10 now!! They both were so happy!! I'll try to get that picture scanned on here sometime for those who are wondering about Derek's smile..... He has more than one.

That was just one day, though. Dale and I have had the privilege to have spent the past 6 years with Derek and Amy in our lives as our oldest children. We have watched and prayed for them as they have faced the past 6 years in a beautiful unity and support of each other. We look forward to all of the years the LORD will continue to allow us this pleasure. I have to admit, Cooper has been the highlight of the 6 years for us. Who cares about college, moving, jobs, apartments and houses, cars....jeeps, anyway???

We spent Derek and Amy's anniversary weekend in Kansas City with almost everyone.....Mallory hitched a ride to Nebraska for a chance to see Joe that weekend. Dale wanted to help Tyler fix his brakes, so we stopped at Tyler and Lauren's first when we arrived in KC. I helped Lauren hang some decorative wall hangings Maureen made for her to match her furniture in her livingroom. They looked great!!

Sunday after church, Derek and Amy went out together for an anniversary lunch, while the rest of us entertained Cooper. He didn't cry once, of course!!! (It helped that Mommy had him well-fed and he napped at church) otherwise, it was our expertise with babies.......actually Cooper is really easy to please!!

I agree with Paula...you have been busy.
It's so cool to have watched your family grow over the years. Not just in age, but now in additions. Just beautiful!
