Unexpected Day in Wichita

Bella has been doing pretty well in her potty training. Today was a pretty big challenge, though. It just wouldn't stop raining!! I would have to pray for a break in the downpour so Bella could make a trip outside! When the rain would let up, we would run for it and Bella really cooperated well. I think the neighbors think I am crazy talking to this dog, but I tell her what I want her to do and she looks so serious....kind of like this pic.

Here is Sunset Park, the park closest to our house. I have never seen it flooded like this since we moved here in 1992. This all happened in less than 24 hours.

I couldn't imagine how all of this water was staying there. There ended up being a intake not too far from the playground equipment that was just too full to handle all of the water, so the result was a flooded soccerfield, playground area, and parking lot!!

We went back to the park for more fun around 7 pm tonight and were surprised to find most of the water gone!!! The kids found 2 ponds still on the soccer field to play in, but the big water definitely was around 2pm.

Dale ended up helping Dan Atkeson sandbag around his home. The waters rose so quickly that the sandbagging became just putting them around the windows hoping for the best. The Atkeson's have a small lake just beyong their back yard. Dale said the whole house at one time was surrounded by water. By the time we drove by, the waters had receded a little.

We enjoyed going for a drive with Dad to see the water damage. We're glad that as far as we know, no one was hurt today.
